Press Information for Immediate Release:

Chilton Farms Scoops Championship in NADAS Farm Competition 2008

Chilton Farms near Hungerford in Berkshire, owned by Adrian and Sarah Scrope, has scooped this year’s sought after Best Farmed Championship in the Newbury and District Agricultural Society Farm Competition.

Professor John Wibberley, a member of the judging panel together with Malcolm Stansfield and James Forsyth, paid tribute to farms across the area for producing a high standard despite difficult conditions over the warm, wet summer.

He said: “The winning estate was superb and it was wonderful to see the involvement of both the owners and managers and their commitment to the heritage and sensitive eco-friendly development of the buildings. It is a highly organised but very simple system of farm management and it is a very tidy farm.”

He also praised Sheepdrove organic farm, which is managed by Ian Salmon on behalf of the Kindersley family, which came second.

“Sheepdrove [the second placed farm] was also very impressive and they have done an excellent job. Theirs is obviously a more complicated system to run and manage but it is being well done and they have a very diverse range of operations.”

Presentations to the winning farms will be made this month at The Royal County of Berkshire Show (20-21 September).
